Optimizing micro-matrix sorting
The matrix that fell through the sifting screen was collected in a couple of 5-gallon buckets to be searched for micros once I was back home. The rain hampered the collection of micro-matrix as it left the matrix rather damp and the little lumps of clumpy matrix that passed through the sifting screen looked like a very unappetizing dried food.

Any tips on sifting without hurting your back?
Here's what i use for dry sifting.. It's actually a double box, so it's easy to empty after sifting. I also made it demountable so it's easier to carry around on longer walks. Here's what it looked like when i first made it. Eventually i added an extra bar on the bottom to prevent it from sinking in the ground.

How to Make a Sifter Box for Hunting Fossils and Sifting Soil…
Cut the mesh wire screen to be of the right size for your frame. It should be long enough to bend outside the frame. Be careful, as the wires are sharp when trimmed. Attach the mesh screen to the frame with the U-shaped nails using the hammer. Don't forget to bend under the edges of the mesh to prevent scratching your hand.

Peace River Trip
They finally found the small mammal tooth that came up in their sifting screen. It's smaller than I remember (but that seems to be due to the same adrenaline rush or optical feature of my sifting screen that seems to magnify my finds). Looking at their photos of this tooth it is obvious that it is really half a tooth.
